Sadly, that attitude about marriage and gays is woven in a lot of his newer books, and some of his older ones. Which is sad, as I have liked his books since I was in Jr. High long before he pulled a George Lucas and unraveled everything good about the original series.
Since I want to read, and not be preached at and since Ender's shadow was SO TERRIBLE, and since I do not need any more stomach aches, I gave up read OSC.

Especially his articles.

I must admit that I rushed through a bit on my first reading and ignored the Wil Wheaton link. Just listened to it now. He was one of my first big crushes. Did I mention that I emailed him years ago when he first started blogging? He sent me a personal reply that made me squeal with delight. A big shout out to the "internets" for making that wonderful moment in my life possible.

Excellent discussion of the Kindle and the art of the audiobook. I've been listening to a couple dozen Kurt Vonnegut short story audiobook collections, and I can't help but feel that has my creative juices rumbling.

Loved the mustache-o-riffic Sweet Jane in Paris 1974 video, and the Wil "Shut Up, Wesley" Wheaton audio bit. It will take me another few readings of this just to get through the great links!

Can I please borrow your filter? I was getting all excited about this "Ender" series but my disgust about that guy's anti-gay stance shot that right to shit.

Another excellent post, Jim.

Wow Jim! This very rich post is like a good "Simpsons" episode: It starts in one place, ends in an entirely different one, and the journey is as interesting as it is unexpected.

I could comment about all of it, but I prefer not to type at length on my phone, so allow me to break my reactions down to the essentials. You are a talented writer, and all of us who read your words can count ourselves lucky. Ultimately it doesn't matter whether it's a blog post or a short story (or, some day, a particular play whose very genius premise makes me smile). Thank you for continuing to share your gift, so full of verve. You inspire me.

The last video on this link makes reference to your "jack on the back of my neck" concept.

What an outstanding video. I love how it transitioned in the music and the change in video. Your son is so cute. You also have a good variety of footage. Very impressive. Love reading your blog, keep it up.

Funny, those are exactly the three films I've seen in so-called Real 3-D too. I loved the first two. "Coraline" in particular did not overdo the 3-D effects (but used the technology to do great visual things with depth of field, contrasting the "real" world with the "other" world. Although I don't recall "Up" sticking too many things in my eye, either. (And I saw "Up" twice, but the second time was at the Logan in very conventional 2-D.)
